Universiade New Town Public Space System Planning

For a long time, Longgang has been planned and positioned as the sub-center of Shenzhen city, but due to development reasons and the system and location conditions inside and outside the customs, the development is obviously lagging behind other central areas in the special zone. The establishment of the Universiade New City and the placement of the Universiade venues have significantly improved the urban transportation and urban image in the central area of Longgang, laying a foundation for Longgang Centre to assume higher urban responsibilities. This plan aims to upgrade the Universiade New City from a “spatial juxtaposition model of mountain sports, Universiade venues and urban sectors” to a complex city integrating ecology, production, financial services, leisure life, and urban events. The plan design takes into account both the dynamic process of planning and the way of implementation. The plan proposes a strategy that runs through two spatial levels to promote the upgrade and transformation of Longgang Center:

Construct a green context, connect large open spaces and urban spaces; activate the Universiade Center to enable it to interact with surrounding cities; sort out the status quo, build the core area, and form an efficient and compact urban structure; refine urban space to create rich urban life.
