Building E of College of Chemistry of Peking University

Peking University, which has attracted the attention of China, is the first national university in modern China and the only school established as the country's highest institution. It marked the beginning of modern higher education in China. The project is located in Haidian District, Beijing. It is a semi-renovated project. The newly built E area building is sandwiched between the original inner courtyard, and the north and south are the old experimental buildings. The inner courtyard has a relatively negative atmosphere. The design introduces the concept of sunken courtyard and light courtyard, uses ventilation and lighting and greening to activate the underground space, maximize the space of the inner courtyard, so that both the first and second floors of the underground can be used as public areas. The dynamic and static divisions of the inner courtyard are controlled by streamlines. The fast flow line basically connects the entrances in various directions in a straight line, ensuring that the path conforms to the psychological route that students and teachers hope in the hurry, and different directions will have different types of experience. For example, the ceremonial passage from the entrance of the inner courtyard to the newly built laboratory building emphasizes the sense of sequence and ritual; the old laboratory building connecting the north and the south has a bridge that crosses the inner courtyard, overlooking the courtyard, and the overall circulation forms a three-dimensional traffic and sight system. Through the creation of light, path, and space, the design of the Chemistry Building emphasizes the experience of teachers and students. Through the creation of space that carries experience, it hopes to provide users with the possibility of behavior, the possibility of collision of knowledge and ideas, which will develop into a story, which will one day change. Into a place of memory.
